Bel Canto Chamber Singers Benefit Concert for the Upper Valley Music Center

Date: 03/10/10

Town: Norwich, VT

The Bel Canto Chamber Singers and Orchestra will give a special performance to benefit the Upper Valley Music Center, on Sunday March 21, 3:00pm at the First Congregational Church, South Park Street, Lebanon, NH. Admission is by donation at the door. All proceeds benefit the UVMC. Bel Canto's program will feature Schubert's Mass No. 2 in G Major performed with string ensemble, as well as music from The Phantom of the Opera, selections from "Frostiana" by Randall Thompson, solo and ensemble vocal performances, and a solo performance by pianist Matthew Wiencke. Founded in 1995, the Upper Valley Music Center is the region's premier source of music education and ensemble opportunities. Each year over 350 singers and instrumentalists take part in the many lessons and classes, choruses and ensembles offered by the Center's expert faculty. Community outreach includes a variety of concert programs featuring our own faculty and students as well as distinguished visiting artists. A number of public and private schools partner with UVMC in offering elementary string and wind lessons provided by the Center's teachers. The Bel Canto Chamber Singers, founded in 1978, is one of the Upper Valley's most enduring performance organizations. With pianist and organist Matthew Wiencke and the Bel Canto Chamber Orchestra, composed of fine local instrumentalists, the singers perform a varied repertoire of choral classics in regular December and May concerts, as well as benefits and other occasional performances. Hal Sheeler, well-known from his frequent involvement in community musical events, is Bel Canto's Music Director.
