Step It Up 2007 Saturday, April 14; 10 am to 4 pm This event is free for all Vermont and New Hampshire residents. Step It Up 2007 is a national event organized by Vermont's own Bill McKibben. On Saturday, April 14, 2007, citizens will gather in different sites around the nation as we collectively voice our concern over global warming and discuss how we can each play a positive role in making a difference. In addition to providing a space for this public forum, VINS educators and conservation biologists will offer insight into the science of global warming and provide specific examples of ways we can participate in the solution. Event will take place at the VINS Nature Center in Quechee, VT. Residents from communities in the Upper Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire are welcome to attend. Tentative Schedule: 10:00 am: Morning Bake Sale featuring locally produced baked goods and coffee roasted in Vermont 10:30 am: Visit and discussion with Senator Bernie Sanders 11:00 am: Unveiling of the new Snowy Owl Exhibit and discussion on how its habitat is impacted by Global Climate Change 11:30 am: Speaker, Dr. Barry Rock, Professor at the University of New Hampshire; "Vermont is Not Immune - the Regional Impacts of Global Climate Change" 11:30 am: Concurrently for children during the presentation: Supervised story time outdoors, or in the new VINS Library in case of rain 12:30 to 2:30 pm: "Roving Raptors" featuring VINS' Raptors-in-Residence with commentary by VINS docents on how these species are affected by climate change 1:00 pm: Speaker, Chris Rimmer, Director of VINS Conservation Biology Department; "Bicknell's Trush - Linking Conservation Across the Hemisphere" 1:00 pm: Concurrently for children during the presentation: Hands-on climate change learning activities, face painting, etc. 2:30 pm: “Raptors and The Land†featuring VINS educators and live animals in a story of change and adaptation, highlighting local bir species for the public up close. 3:45 pm: Group photograph with Step It Up Banner for later submission to Step It Up 2007 Campaign to Congress to "Cut Carbon 80% by 2050" All Day: "Advocacy Action Opportunity" providing computer workstations around VINS Nature Center for participants to use to sign an online petition asking congress to cut U.S. carbon emissions 80% by 2050
